The Georgia Symphony Orchestra & GSO Music Works
The Georgia Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with Carnegie Hall, has developed a set of music programs specifically targeted to enhance the cognitive skills of young children, veterans and seniors.
A growing volume of empirical data from formal, scientific research continues to validate the hypothesis that music, particularly performing music, substantially contributes to an increase in cognitive ability and cognitive restoration.
- Students perform better academically in a broad range of measurements including IQ, working memory, creativity, grades, graduation rates and SAT scores.
- Veterans with serious wounds and/or PTSD demonstrate reduced stress, improved communication, better and faster cognitive rehabilitation, fewer social and emotional problems and enhanced recovery of coordination and physical skills.
- Seniors experience alleviation of symptoms of depression, improvement and recovery of memory, increased cognitive processing speed and better overall mental and physical health.
Expanding on its seven-decade legacy, the Georgia Symphony Orchestra has launched GSO Music Works in partnership with Carnegie Hall to specifically serve these three segments of our community.
Our three-year goal is to raise $1 Million to deliver brain-function-enhancing musical experiences to 8,000 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, 5,000 veterans and 5,000 seniors throughout the state of Georgia.
